It is the time of the year for UKEC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), and we would like to invite you to join us at the meeting, or be part of us in the council!

What is the Annual General Meeting (AGM)?
The Annual General Meeting is a platform used by the incumbent UKEC Executive Council to report on its annual activities. The annual elections also takes place at the AGM. This year, we are opening nominations for all elected Top 8 positions and Regional Chairpersons. The Supreme Council, made up of Presidents and Vice Presidents of 78 Malaysian Student Societies all over the UK and Ireland, is responsible for electing the new high committee members of the Executive Council. Furthermore, the AGM gives the Supreme Council the opportunity to submit motions and subject to approval, could impact the way the UKEC Executive Council and other Malaysian Societies within the UK and Ireland operate.

All Malaysian students, in the UK or Ireland are welcomed to observe the AGM as members of the public, although without any voting rights.

- Public Motion Debate Form
Both UKEC Supreme Councillors and Members of the public are also encouraged to submit public motions to be debated during the AGM. Public motions are motions that you can raise concerning issues that you think UKEC should take a stand on or pursue.

UKEC Executive Council Committee Positions and Their Job Scopes
Chairperson
- Sets the tone and direction of the council by aligning the internal & external administration of it towards a grand scheme.
- Oversees and conducts the Council’s advocacy and activism work
- Researches developing current issues as well producing and analysing survey results on them.
- Looks into developing greater engagement with student societies by working on new initiatives that can better assist these societies.
Deputy Chairperson
- Supports the Chairperson with internal operations and external relations.
- Acts as the President of Supreme Council by ensuring healthy relationship with the representatives of Malaysian Societies.
- Oversees and conducts the Council’s advocacy and activism work
- Researches developing current issues as well producing and analysing survey results on them.
- Looks into developing greater engagement with student societies by working on new initiatives that can better assist these societies.
General Secretary
- Ensures smooth operation of the council.
- Oversees all council work and projects and the delegation of tasks to the Executive Council members.
- Handles external enquiries and emails.
- Organises UKEC’s Ordinary General Meeting as well as the Annual General Meeting.
- In charge of producing templates and forms, meeting minutes, storing paperwork and documents and producing UKEC’s Annual Report.
National Treasurer
- Handles the finances and maintains relationship with sponsors.
- Responsible for the organization’s financial statements.
- Allocates and distributes funds for each of the branch.
- Maintains sustainability of funds for UKEC daily operation and flagship.
- Arm of UKEC that liaisons and approach Corporate Companies already or are interested in becoming our sponsors.
Vice-Chairperson of UKECareers Office
- Tackles Malaysia’s brain drain problem
- Improves the employability of Malaysian students
- Spearheads UKEC-GRADUAN The Malaysian Career Fair in London.
Vice-Chairperson of UKECatalyst Office
- Promotes intellectual discussions to raise awareness and understanding on current issues within students.
- Creates platforms for productive discourses to construct solutions for any relevant issues in Malaysia.
Vice-Chairperson of UKECares Office
- Contributes to ensuring adequate welfare of Malaysian-based societies and Malaysian students studying across the UK and Ireland.
- Provides chances for the Malaysian students to give back to the community by creating and informing the Malaysian students in the UK and Ireland on the volunteering opportunities available to them.
- Responsible for the council’s welfare by ensuring the wellbeing of council members.
- Assists Secretariat Office with task delegation to ensure it is balanced amongst council members.
Vice-Chairperson of UKEConnect Office
- Ensures constant communication and outreach to students via social media platforms.
- Provides consistency to brand promotion.
- Promotes our events through digital marketing.
- Advises and facilitate your respective team members in designing posters, newsletters as well as creating videos and updating info on the website.
Regional Chairpersons Office
- Help to connect Supreme Councillors in the respective regions through roundtable meetings organised by the UKEC Executive Council, social media and communication platforms (e.g. WhatsApp and Facebook group), occasional socials, etc.
- Assist with the operations of the Executive Council for flagship events like Projek Amanat Negara (PAN), UKEC-GRADUAN The Malaysian Career Fair and Malaysian Student Leaders’ Summit (MSLS)
- Organise regional events which include most if not all MSocs in the region such as Malaysian Festival (MFest), career related events and volunteering activities.
How do I run for any position in the Executive Council Committee?
- To run for any position in the Executive Council High Committee, please fill up this form by 12th October 2018 and attach your manifestos. Kindly note that you are allowed to edit your responses and re-upload your manifesto at any point until the deadline.
- After the deadline, candidates’ manifestos will be published on UKEC’s website, Facebook page and also sent to our Supreme Councillors.
- Following that, all candidates are given one week to get in touch with our Supreme Councillors to campaign.
- On the day of UKEC’s Annual General Meeting, candidates will present their manifestos to the attendees, and will be voted by the Supreme Councillors via the Alternative Voting System.
Conditions on running for any position in the Executive Council Committee:
- Malaysian student studying in the United Kingdom or in the Republic of Ireland
- Does not hold any elected top 4 positions in any Malaysian society. The positions mentioned are Chairperson/President, Vice Chairperson/Vice President, General Secretary/Secretary, and Treasurer/Assistant Treasurer.
