Venturing out of a small town in Malaysia to face the challenges of Cambridge, Jing Yi will be the first member of her family to study overseas. Whilst she wrestles with supervisions, deadlines and internships, back home, her father determinedly gives his all to ensure that her dream is realised.

Unbeknownst to Jing Yi, the unexpected death of her grandfather will soon convert her family’s kopitiam into a battleground between tradition and modernity. As her aunt threatens to upset its timeless serenity with her newfangled recipes, Jing Yi’s father must fight to preserve the decades of culture and heritage embodied within the kopitiam’s tiled walls.

Jing Yi must make a choice. Should she keep moving forward to chase success? Or should she take a step back in time, to stand by her father against the tides of change?

~~~
Kopitiam: a traditional coffee shop found in Malaysia, frequented for its classically Malaysian food and beverages. The word ‘kopi’ is Malay for coffee and ‘tiam’ is Hokkien/Hakka for shop.
