Presenting to you our 13th edition of the Malaysian Student Leaders’ Summit (MSLS), one of our longest – running flagship events.

MSLS is an annual initiative designed to promote intellectual discourse and raise awareness about the most pertinent issues in Malaysia. The wide scope of issues covered by this conference, from entrepreneurship and arts to civil society and politics, demonstrates UKEC’s focus to raise awareness on critical matters amongst the bright young minds of Malaysia. It gives a vital opportunity to students to discern the viewpoints of prominent Malaysian figures and at the same time, encourage greater student participation in the crucial Malaysian issues of today.

This year we maintain the summit’s long virtue by inaugurating a new inspiring theme “The Malaysian Identity: Stripes of Unity” for our 13th edition of MSLS. The theme perfectly encapsulates our diverse cultural identity as Malaysians and despite coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds, religion, ethnicity, or even political ideologies, we all stand as one under the Jalur Gemilang flag. The conference aims to focus on the discussion on how all these nuanced heterogeneity has only brought us closer to each other as a nation. 

It is critical for us youth to educate ourselves on each other’s culture and beliefs to build mutual trust and respect between each other and thus, allowing Malaysia to move away from the never-ending racial politics puppeteered by pseudo-nationalists and instead focus on transforming Malaysia into a developed nation. The stripes of identity epitomizes how our unity is pivotal in the government’s mission to regain our title as the Malaysian Tiger by 2021. This conference aims to address this notion!
