Aligned with UKEC’s direction towards Nation Building Through Youth Empowerment, the UKEC LEAD programme aims to build student leadership skills. The programme recognises and hone by means of training the critical skills that are required for individual development. It also hopes to be a platform for student leaders to learn how to manage their respective student organisations and establish a better relationship between themselves and UKEC, and apply such skills within a small-scaled group or even in broader context such as a real-life work setting. Additionally, the UKEC LEAD Programme aims to provide students an avenue to which they will be able to create project proposals on policies, entrepreneurship and social aspects – all to better harness the spirit of volunteerism for nation building amongst the beneficiaries. Reflected in UKEC LEAD III, students explored the theme of ‘Leading in the Digital Era’, which focused on the skills required for them to be effective leaders in the new digital economy.

Projek Amanat Negara, one of UKEC’s annual flagship events, serves as a platform for non-partisan scholarly discussions and intellectual discourse between leading figures of the political, social and economic fields. Past conferences have seen prestigious speakers such as YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Dato’ Sri Nazir Razak, Caprice and Shahril Hamdan. Being one of the only student-led conferences which flies speakers directly from our home, our turnout for events definitely doesn’t disappoint. UKEC is proud to have significantly impacted the lives of Malaysian students overseas and given them a home away from home. The latest edition of PAN XVII 2020 was held in Cardiff University and successfully attracted over 150 students from the Wales region to partake in the discussion of national issues.

With over 3000 student participants annually, 2000 CVs collected per year and over 30 participating companies, the Career Fair aims to provide a platform for Malaysian students to explore job and internship opportunities back in Malaysia through insights from the participating companies.
In view of the unforeseen Covid-19 outbreak this year, alarming concerns on the public’s health and safety were raised by the UK government and High Commission of Malaysia, London leading up to the Career Fair. UKEC and GRADUAN collaboratively came to the final decision of transitioning the Malaysian Career Fair onto a virtual platform in light of the safety concerns of the public this year. UKEC and GRADUAN hence present the Virtual Malaysian Career Fair 2020, held on a virtual platform that was implemented on GRADUAN’s website. In view of future situations, Career Fair sees a potential mix and merge of virtual elements into physical career fair to persistently engage students to form the best talent pools for employers.

The Malaysian Student Leaders’ Summit (MSLS) is one of our longest-running flagship events, coming to its 14th edition in 2020. It draws up to 500-700 students each year, and the number keeps growing. Held in Kuala Lumpur during the summer holidays, it plays host to key industry figures and leaders on a wide range of topics to reflect the diverse interests of Malaysian student leaders. The wide scope of issues covered by this conference, from entrepreneurship and arts to civil society and politics, demonstrates UKEC’s focus to raise awareness on critical matters amongst the bright young minds of Malaysia. MSLS XIII, which was held in Intercontinental Hotel Kuala Lumpur in August 2019, had attracted over 400 participants as we hosted prominent figures including Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz and YB Syed Saddiq. Other notable figures in previous editions of MSLS include YB Dato‘ Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, YABhg Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, YB Nurul Izzah, YB Rafizi Ramli, Dato’ Seri Nazir Razak, Dato’ Mohammad Faiz Azmi and Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.
