UKEC  FUND

Empowering Malaysian Societies

UKEC aims to empower Malaysian Societies (MSocs) within the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. UKEC acknowledges the difficulty in holding events of various scales and the difficulty in obtaining funding for those events.

This explains the rationale of the UKEC Fund, which is designed to lighten the financial burden of MSocs. It is in the best interest of UKEC, that MSocs are able to organise their respective events such as Malaysian Night (MNight), Malaysian Games, Malaysian Festival (MFest) or any main event of theirs successfully.

The aim of the UKEC Fund is to aid MSocs in approaching break-even; in the case where their event occurs a net loss. .

UKEC-PRIMA EKUITI  STOCK PITCH

Overview

The UKEC x Prima Ekuiti Investment Challenge serves as a collaboration between the United Kingdom and Eire Council for Malaysian Students (UKEC) and Prima Ekuiti to promote financial literacy and investment knowledge among Malaysian students and professionals. Through this initiative, both organizations aim to create impactful workshops and events that empower participants to make informed financial decisions.

The programme will feature two physical touchpoints— Learning Day (Online Workshop and Physical Workshop) and Final Presentation Day—with a virtual workshop session a week before the learning day. Participants will collaborate in teams to stock pitch, presenting their investment thesis to industry experts from Prima Ekuiti.

Think you have what it takes to impress the judges? Prepare your best pitch and join us for an exhilarating competition that could kickstart your career in finance!

FINANCIAL LITERACY

Getting Lit with FinLit!

At UKEC, we believe that financial literacy is the cornerstone of personal and professional growth. Financial Literacy is our flagship initiative designed to equip Malaysian students in the UK with essential financial knowledge and practical skills to navigate today’s dynamic economic landscape.

This year’s program focuses on key areas including budgeting, saving, investing, debt management, and understanding financial markets. Through a series of workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions, we aim to foster a strong financial foundation among students, empowering them to make informed decisions for their future.

In 2024, we dived deeper into topics such as risk-free investments (ASB, ASM, KWSP/EPF), investment strategies in stock markets and FOREX, and the evolving world of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. We are honored to feature expert speakers from Bank Negara Malaysia, Noor Izuan Ong, University of Liverpool Investment Society, William Wedgewood and our very own Executive Councillor Ilham Qayyum, sharing valuable insights to guide students on their financial journey.

UKEC - FINANCIAL REPORTING AND PROCEDURE STANDARD  FRPS

Setting the Gold Standard for Financial Governance

The UKEC Financial Reporting and Procedure Standard (UKEC-FRPS) is the cornerstone of UKEC’s financial management framework and is the first to be implemented after 29 years of UKEC’s establishment. It was officially introduced during the UKEC Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2024, the UKEC-FRPS establishes comprehensive procedures for financial reporting, fund management, and internal controls, ensuring transparency, accountability, and consistency across all UKEC operations.

Key Features:

Financial Governance:
Clear guidelines on budgeting, expenditure approvals, and fund allocations to maintain fiscal discipline.

Audit & Compliance:
Robust procedures for handling audit discrepancies, materiality assessments, and internal reviews, with an emphasis on resolving issues collaboratively.

Transparency & Accountability:
Standardized reporting formats to ensure clarity in financial statements, enabling Supreme Councillors and stakeholders to make informed decisions.

The UKEC-FRPS is designed not just as a document but as a living framework—adapting to UKEC’s evolving needs while upholding the highest standards of integrity in financial management.
